I needed some floor paint for my front porch and another project, and visited our local Lowe’s store. Higher quality floor paint at Home Depot was $22, and I decided to shop around. At Lowe’s, I found loads of oil based paint on clearance for from $9 to $12 a gallon, with original prices from $18 to $22 or so. I am thinking about going back to get some more for an outdoor project - it would save me about $100.
I had thought I might be spending about $35 to $40, but instead I walked out the door with two gallon cans for only about $21. They were even able to tint one of the cans to the color I needed.
The store I went to seemed to have about 15 gallons of a dark brown, and another 20 gallons of a white that they said they could tint to just about any color.
The “paint guy” there told me that they are clearing out all of the existing stocks of oil based paint because of new environmental regulations concerning volatile organic compounds.
