Alliant Credit Union members get 25% off their monthly Sprint bill. (New and existing customers)

How do you join Alliant?

You need to belong to a member organization like any local PTA. You can sign up for the National PTA for $25/year. (No need to continue membership after you’ve joined Alliant).

Then, you need to open an account, $5 minimum deposit. You can sign up online.

Put the $5 in a savings account and pick paperless statements to avoid hassles with dormant account fees.

Total Cost: $30 and some online paperwork
Total Benefit: 25% off your (already lower than everyone else) Sprint bill every month

EDITED
One caveat from the finance section’s Alliant CU thread.

There may be a $10 “dormant account” fee on Alliant CU if you don’t make some kind of transaction once a year. BUT, it looks like that rule doesn’t apply to a savings account if you “opt out of paper statements.” So, make sure you choose savings accout, paperless billing, and you should be good. (Also, they give you 30 days notice before charging you, so no worries).

By the way, their checking account pays 3%, so it might be worth it to some to actually make use of their ACU account.

A lot of you may have opened accounts a year ago when they had the high CD rates.
Their fee schedule lists a $10 dormant account fee after one year. If you have not used your share account recently, you might want to make a token transaction to be on the safe side.

I don’t know for a fact whether they actually charge this fee or not. Several other credit unions have such a fee on their schedules, but don’t enforce it. I’m just saying it’s on their fee schedule. If anyone gets charged, please let us know!

P.S. You don’t have to join the PTA if you happen to live in the Chicago Suburbs (Arlington Heights, Bensenville, Des Plaines, Elk Grove, Elmhurst, Franklin Park, Harwood Heights, Itasca, Mount Prospect, Northlake, Niles, Norridge, Park Ridge, Prospect Heights, River Grove, Rolling Meadows, Rosemont, Schiller Park, Wood Dale and Chicago O’Hare Airport property)

Good luck!
